Drinking Games for Two: 8 Games That Work With Exactly 2 Players

Updated September 2026

Most drinking games are built for a crowd. With two people the maths changes: there is no hiding in the group, every prompt lands on you, and a game that needs a circle of eight just dies. These eight work with exactly two players – four straight out of the Cold Ones app, four that need nothing but a coin or a deck of cards.

All of them play just as well with water, coffee or a forfeit instead of a sip. Two people, one phone, zero setup.

What makes a drinking game work for two people

1. Truth or Dare for two

The classic, minus the audience. Take turns: "truth or dare?", answer honestly or do the dare, and a refusal costs a sip. With two players the dares get personal fast, which is exactly the point on a date night – and exactly why Classic mode exists for the night you're playing with your flatmate.

In Truth or Dare in Cold Ones you pick Classic or Hot & Spicy and the app deals the prompts, so the game never stalls on "uh… what's your favourite colour?". Real prompts from the app:

2. Never Have I Ever, head to head

Read a statement. If you've done it, you drink. That's the whole rule, and with two people it turns into a fast, funny interview. Add the two-player twist: before the reveal, each of you guesses whether the other has done it. Wrong guess, one sip. You'll learn more in twenty minutes than in a year of small talk.

The Never Have I Ever deck in Cold Ones has hundreds of statements in two intensities. A few real ones:

3. Trivia duel

Pass the phone. One of you reads the question and the four answers, the other picks. Right answer: hand out a sip. Wrong: take one. Then swap. For extra spite, allow a steal – if the answering player is wrong, the reader may answer for a sip of their own.

Cold Ones Trivia has 750 questions across 10 categories (Sports, Science & Nature, History, Geography, Movies & TV, Music, Food & Drink, General Knowledge, Gaming & Tech, Pop Culture), all multiple choice – so even a wild guess has a 25% chance. It's free to play, no account needed. Sample: "In what year did the Titanic sink?" (1912 – you're welcome.)

4. Spin the wheel

Roulette works from two players up: put both names on the wheel, or skip names and fill it with forfeits – "take 2 sips", "do 10 push-ups", "swap seats", "sing the last song you played". Spin, obey, hand the phone over. Nobody chose it. The wheel did.

The Roulette in Cold Ones is free, fully customisable and reusable all night. The best two-player wheel we've found: half the slices are sips, the other half are questions from game one.

5. Higher or Lower (deck of cards)

No phone needed. Shuffle a deck and flip one card face up. Player one guesses whether the next card is higher or lower. Wrong: one sip. Right: the other player guesses. Same value counts as wrong for whoever guessed. Three wrong guesses in a row and you do a dare from game one.

6. Two Truths and a Lie

Tell three statements about yourself, one of them false. If the other player spots the lie, you drink. If they miss it, they drink. Simple, and surprisingly hard to do well after round three – the good lies are the boring ones.

7. Flip, Sip or Dare

Flip a coin and call it in the air. Wrong call: your choice of a sip or a dare set by the other player. Right call: they flip next. Play to five wrong calls. It's dumb, it's fast, and it's the best warm-up game there is because the rules take four seconds.

8. Most Likely To, two-player edition

Paranoia needs a circle to whisper in, but its questions are gold with two players. Read a "who is most likely to…" question and both point at the same time – at yourself or at the other person. Same person: that person drinks. Different people: you both drink. Real questions from Cold Ones Paranoia:

Keep it fun for two

Agree on the heat before you start – Classic for friends, Hot & Spicy only when both of you actually want it. Smaller sips than you'd take in a group, a glass of water on the table, and the rule that anyone can call "points instead of sips" at any moment. Every game above is just as good with zero alcohol; the app never assumes you're drinking.

Four of these eight live in one free app – Truth or Dare, Never Have I Ever, Trivia and Roulette – plus They're a 10, But…, and Paranoia, Impostor and Party Mode for when the two of you become six. No ads, no login, works offline.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good drinking game for 2 people?

The ones with no dead turns, where both of you act every round. Truth or Dare, Never Have I Ever with a guessing twist, a Trivia duel and a forfeit wheel all work with exactly two. Card and coin classics like Higher or Lower, Two Truths and a Lie and Flip Sip or Dare need nothing but what is already on the table.

What drinking games can couples play?

Truth or Dare and Never Have I Ever are the two that actually tell you something new about each other, especially with the intensity turned up. Set the mode before you start so you both know what you are agreeing to.

How do you play Never Have I Ever with just two people?

Add a guessing round. Before either of you admits anything, each guesses whether the other has done it. A wrong guess costs a sip. That turns a group confession game into a two-player interview and doubles the number of things at stake per statement.

Can you play drinking games for two without alcohol?

Yes, and with two people it is worth doing more often, because sips add up fast when every prompt lands on one of you. Swap to points, forfeits or push-ups and keep water on the table.
